Treating periodontal diseases
Periodontal disease affects many people, 87% of the European population suffers from some forms of it. The illness of gums and other supporting tissues can not only cause symptoms in the mouth but also plays an important role in generating more general health problems.
Symptoms of periodontal disease
Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the periodentium, which affects the supporting tissues of the teeth. Typical symptoms are red, inflamed, sensitive, bleeding gums, frequent bad mouth odors, unpleasant breaths. Another sign of periodontitis is the loose gumhead around the teeth. In almost every case, it is preceded by a bigger amount of tartar on the tooth necks and under the gum. The retraction of the gum and the dentine sensitivity are also characteristic symptoms of the disease, just like interdental bleeding and loose teeth.
The most common causes of gingivitis:
- Inhereditary genetics
- Poor oral hygiene, smoking
- Long lasting stress
- Hormonal changes, diseases
- Diabetes
- Blood disorders
- Certain medicines, antihypertensives, hormones, psychotic agents
- Poor nutrition and indigestion
- Improper orthodontic treatments
- Incorrect fillings and replacements
- Allergic reactions to the material of dentures
Treating Bleeding Gums
Treatment of periodontal diseases always begins with a very thorough check-up of the patient’s medical history, and a short questioning of the patient. Stomatologically speaking, we always start with the ultrasonic tartar removal. As the disease develops slowly, it affects more and more tissues, so treatments are performed deeper and deeper. We try to explore the possible background problems everytime, and if necessary, we take hormonal and blood tests with further inflammatory examinations primarily by heatmapping. If necessary, our colleagues will perform further tests.
